Viani has been Italy's culinary ambassador since 1973

Viani has been Italy’s culinary ambassador since 1973, always in search of genuine taste and quality. They have introduced and popularized excellent extra virgin olive oils, Ligurian pesto and balsamic vinegars in Germany. Their range now includes over 3,000 first-class products from around 400 artisan producers in Italy and Europe.

Not surprisingly, many Italians work for Viani. But the Italian virus can be felt in everyone. Their everyday life is never monotonous. They swap recipes, taste food in the three kitchens we have in Göttingen, big or small, and there’s always panettone, olive oil, salami and biscotti somewhere so that everyone knows where they’re going. Sometimes it’s Sicily, then it’s Piedmont and suddenly a special taste from Basilicata pops up. It’s all part of our culture.

They have been visiting the regions for decades, getting tips from producer friends and visiting the best trade fairs and markets in Italy.

For Viani, good food means quality of life, doing something good for the body, senses and mind. They supply delicatessens, small specialty stores, the large delicatessen departments of well-known department stores and online delicatessen stores throughout Germany, Austria and beyond from their central warehouse in Göttingen.

Antonio Viani, the company founder, moved to Göttingen in the early 1960s for love. In the years that followed, he swapped his life as a naval officer for that of a food wholesaler – initially as an importer of fresh truffles – who did not want to do without the flavors of his homeland. Viani fresh pesto would not exist without the time he spent helping out in his mother’s kitchen. It is thanks to his perseverance and many trips to his homeland that many specialties have found their way into Viani’s range over the years.

Today, his son Remo runs the company and continues the family’s tradition. For a few years now, anyone who likes to eat well and wants to know where and from whom their food comes can trust Viani.
