Shiitake mushrooms have been grown in Japan for thousands of years and are widely used for many traditional and modern Japanese delicacies, including nabe hot pots, tempura, yakiniku, stir fries, and miso soup. Shiitake are as delicious as they are packed with nutrients, and are sure to be a welcome addition to your cooking.

Storage:

Store in a cool and dry place. Once opened, keep sealed and consume within 4 weeks.

Preparation Suggestion:

Rinse carefully under cold water. for best results soak in cold water overnight or until soft. alternatively, soak in warm water for 30 minutes. for immediate use, submerge the mushrooms in warm water in a container (with lid), add 2 tbsp of sugar, close the lid and shake for a few minutes or until soft. remove the hard stems and cut to desirable size appropriate for the intended usage. cook together with your dish for a minimum of 5 minutes to give a deep and umami rich flavour and fragrance. the water used for rehydrating the mushrooms can also be used as stock to add extra umami to soups.
