Swedish Salad with Sardines

Gubbröra is a traditional appetizer originating from Sweden. It is usually made with a combination of anchovies, hard-boiled eggs, onions, sour cream, spring onions, dill and white pepper. Try this version with pickled sardines.

Preparation Method

  1. Boil the eggs in boiling water for about 10 minutes.
  2. Let them cool down, peel them and crumble them, reserving some of the yolk for decoration.
  3. Add the chopped onion and radishes, the yogurt, the sliced sardines and a handful of chopped fresh aromatic herbs.
  4. Mix everything together, adjust the salt and pepper and put aside in a cool place for half an hour.
  5. Serve the salad on top of the rye toast and garnish with the crumbled egg yolk and some coriander or chive leaves. Accompany with some candied lemon slices and a mug of beer.
